Take advantage of Sydney’s great weather, spectacular views, and widespread public transport system! Here are some of the best walks and hikes around Sydney that you shouldn’t miss! ALL of these walks can also be accessed by public transport.
Bondi Beach to Coogee
We weren’t super impressed with Bondi Beach in general, not sure why it’s so famous, but we did really enjoy the 6km walk! Bondi itself is pretty crowded, and a popular spot to get drunk with other backpackers. Along the walk though you’ll come across some great views of seaside cliffs, as well as quieter coves to relax in. Best to start earlier in the morning before the walk becomes more crowded and the temperature heats up.
Federation Cliff Walk
Explore the South Head and follow the coastal cliffs to Hornby Lighthouse and Watson’s Bay. Stop at a nude beach along the way – or not. Seems to be only occupied by older men. After, catch the ferry back to Sydney’s Circular Quay.
Bradley’s Head to Chowder Bay
This walk provides pretty cool vantage points of the Sydney harbour. It starts from the Taronga Zoo and is a gentle and fairly quiet walk, I didn’t pass too many people at all. It goes by a couple secluded beaches as well that were empty. I probably spent a good hour at one of them just collecting sea glass. SERIOUSLY THERE WAS SO MUCH SEA GLASS. Also spotted a Kookaburra and the notorious and wild bush turkey.

Blue Mountains
A trip to Sydney is not complete without a trip up to the Blue Mountains. From the famous 3 Sisters to the impressive Wentworth Falls, there are a ton of hikes to choose from that are guaranteed to take your breath away.

Royal National Park
Got limited time in Sydney and not sure what should make the list? GO HERE. People let it slip off their itineraries because it’s a bit out of the way but it had our favourite hikes we did around Sydney! All of favourite memories and adventures were in this National Park, including our treks to Wedding Cake Rock and the Figure 8 Pools. There are many pristine and secluded beaches as well. Also consider Karloo Pools, a moderate walk down to a great swimming hole along Kangaroo Creek.

Blue Gum Walk
Want to see Water Dragons galore? Do this walk. We lived right near Hornsby where this track is located. It’s an easy-moderate loop trail that takes you through some of Sydney’s oldest blue gum trees, so close to the city! There are creek crossings, sandstone caves, and oh ya, a million water dragons.
